North East Liberal Democrat MSP Alison McInnes is “surprised and delighted” to have been included in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Mrs McInnes has been made an OBE for her services to the public and politics.
She said: “I am really proud to have been able to help constituents over the past 21 years, first as a councillor and now as an MSP. I really enjoy the work, and there are lots of things to do.
“It is a privilege to be able to speak up for those whose voice is not being listened to. Much of the work is behind the scenes, and has included leading and shaping the North East regional transport strategy, and ensuring that projects such as Oldmeldrum’s new academy and a re-opened Kintore railway station come about.
“When I started out as a young mother combining parenting with voluntary work, I never imagined making it on to the Honours list. It was a great surprise. I am delighted.”
