Cllr Gillian Owen, who will take control of the council’s Scrutiny and Audit Committee, spoke to the Times about her recent appointment and what it would mean in practice. She will be monitoring closely council policy, to make sure the local authority is delivering on aims and targets. She said: “This committee is really important - it seeks to make changes but does not make policy, it makes recommendations to Council on policy or delivery matters.”

She is joined by fellow Ellon Cllr Richard Thomson, who will serve as vice chair.
