Kintore railway station could be on track in 2014

East Garioch councillor Martin Ford has promised to keep up the pressure for a railway station at Kintore.

Councillor Ford wrote to transport minister Keith Brown last month urging the minister to give the go-ahead to the project as soon as possible.

In his reply, Mr Brown indicated that with on-going work by Network Rail and Transport Scotland, a Kintore station should be a project ‘ready for implementation from 2014 onwards’.

Mr Brown added that the £30million Scottish Station Investment Fund he announced in April could be one source of funding.

Councillor Ford said, “Essentially, the minister’s letter repeats that the proposal for a station at Kintore is under active investigation. That has been the case for years.

“The proposal for improved local train services north and south of Aberdeen and additional stations was put forward in the early 1990s.

“While the length of time this is taking is exasperating, I do believe progress is being made towards a detailed scheme.

“The minister does give a clear indication of an expected timescale for getting the proposal for a station fully worked up, and a possible source of funding.”
