A councillor is welcoming steps to prevent illicit traveller camps being set up in community woodland at Ellon.
Aberdeenshire Council officers are soon to instal a set of gates and bollards at Balmacassie.
The moves comes as a group of travellers moved on to the woodland site at the weekend.
Local councillor Richard Thomson recently held talks with council officials about the problem.
He said: “Last year, we had an unfortunate cycle of travellers moving and being evicted over the course of several weeks from the community woodland to the Park and Ride to the industrial estate.
“I’ve been pushing hard for a solution to the problem of travellers stopping on these unsuitable sites.
“With the building and earth works on the industrial estate, the new gates at the Park and Ride and these soon to be installed measures, hopefully people will in future be able to enjoy the community woodland as intended.”
On the latest encampment, head of protective services and waste management Ian Robertson, said: “Letters are being delivered to the caravans to alert the Travellers that eviction proceedings will be lodged with the court if they do not vacate the area within the next 48 hours.”
