Local councillor Gillian Owen has asked the Chief Executive of Aberdeenshire Council to consider moving the new HQ to Ellon.

The Ellon and District cllr said: “I understand that in the past, papers were bought before a different PBSG so I am fully aware of those discussions, however, I do hope that all alternatives will be assessed.

“I believe a much better destination for a new HQ is Ellon, indeed in years gone by Mr Bill Bruce put forward a proposal to do just that.

“The old Academy is being demolished, the land belongs to the Council and it is a significant size, ample for the needs of the Council, plus once the demolition is complete works can start almost immediately.

“Residents are keen to see action on this valuable site and what a huge benefit this would bring to our town.

“Rather than jumping to a conclusion that Inverurie is the natural town to move to, others should be explored too as the economic benefits that may be on offer could enhance them as well.”

Cllr Owen added: “I am just seeking assurance that whilst this project is being looked at, Ellon’s potential should not be ignored.”
