NORTH EAST SNP MSP Mark McDonald and Ellon and District Councillor Richard Thomson praised the work of Aberdeenshire Care and Repair during a visit last Thursday.

Aberdeenshire Care and Repair provides a free service to owner-occupiers and private tenants living in the area and offers advice and assistance with repairs, improvements and any necessary adaptations for residents aged over 60 or who have a disability.

Following a meeting at Care and Repair’s office at Banavie Court, Mr McDonald and Councillor Thomson visited the home of Care and Repair client and Ellon resident, Elsie Ironside, who spoke about the adaptations which have assisted her in her home.

Mr McDonald said, “Aberdeenshire Care and Repair provide an excellent service to help older people and people with limited mobility to stay in their own homes for longer.

“It was great to be able to visit Elsie Ironside and hear first hand what a difference the adaptations to her home have made.

“Most folk would prefer to stay at home so any initiative to make sure they can do so safely is to be welcomed.”

Mr Thomson added: “By assisting people to make essential repairs and adaptations, Aberdeenshire Care and Repair helps many older and more vulnerable people to continue living comfortably in their own homes for longer.”
