THE organiser of the Ellon Poppy Appeal has thanked generous donors for helping to raise a record amount of money for servicemen and women.
Pam Logan told the Times that she was “absolutely delighted” with the response, which saw £10,760 raised in the Ellon area.
“The total collection for the area is another record,” she said. “Two years ago the total crossed the £9,000 mark and this year the £10,000 mark has been crossed. This is tremendous in this financially uncertain time.
“Once again, thanks to the Air Force cadets for carrying out the street collection on Armistice Day - they raised £402.66, a good increase on the previous year. Thanks must also go to the traders who had collecting tins, the door to door collectors, and the extremely generous folk of Ellon who gave so freely.
“Sadly, we see on the news each day just how much these funds are needed. The Poppy tins will be out on the rattle again next year.”
