The Ellon branch of the Royal British Legion women’s section held their recent meeting in the Legion clubrooms.
Mrs M Murray welcomed the company and then Mrs P Logan read the financial statement for the previous month.
Mrs Murray then told members that the women’s section area meeting had been held on Saturday, March 1, and the delegates from Ellon had heard about a special fund-raiser for Combat Stress.
This is to take the form of an area ‘purse’, which means that each branch within the area is to raise funds and present a cheque to the ‘purse’. The seven area purses will be totalled and a cheque will be presented to a representative from Combat Stress at the women’s section 90th annual conference in June.
Mrs Pam Logan then announced one of the ways to raise some extra funds for this cause is a 10p savings tube and members were then asked to save 10ps over the next month and, hopefully, fill the tube at the next meeting in April.
Mrs Murray then handed over to Mr Bob Davis who gave an interesting talk with slides about his journey to Chile.
Members thoroughly enjoyed seeing the vastly different terrain and flora, and hearing about an entirely different way and outlook on life.
The very welcome ‘cuppa’ followed and the raffle was drawn. Mrs Murray brought the meeting to a close with a reminder that the Spring coffee morning with sales table and bottle raffle will be held in the clubrooms on March 29 from 10 until 11.30am. It is hoped that many family, friends and neighbours will attend.
