New food waste collection and recycling services will begin in and around Ellon area next month.
Starting from July 7, a new system of fortnightly co-mingled recycling will be phased in, meaning recyclable materials will be collected in the same wheeled bin, replacing the blue and black boxes currently used.
Food waste is collected in a green outdoor caddy, transferred from a kitchen caddy that is used with liners making it clean and easy to use and store.
The new service will also cover rural households who will receive both the co-mingled recycling service and the food collection service.
Recycling and waste will be collected on alternate weeks, with food waste picked up each week.
Residents in nearly 12,000 households across the Ellon, Newburgh, Fyvie and Balmedie areas will receive the new blue-lidded recycling bins from next week. (June 9)
Start dates for the new service will be confirmed in letters going out in the week starting June 23. The next week, food waste caddies and a supply of free liners will be delivered to households that can be used immediately.
