Flood-hit residents in Formartine are being encouraged to attend advice drop-in sessions being held in Ellon.

The Scottish Flood Forum (SFF) is holding weekly information evenings at the Ellon Community Campus.

We hope we can give people more reassurance that something can be done

SFF, working in partnership withn Aberdeenshire Council, is helping communities and businesses during the long process of recovery following the severe flooding of earlier in the year.

Residents can receive advice and support and view an exhibition of property flood protection products.

A separate session was held in Meiklemill School last week.

The SFF’s operations director Paul Hendy said it was extremely well attended.

He added: “We hope we can take away the fear and give people more reassurance that something can be done.”

Ellon and District Councillor Isobel Davidson said she was concerned that many Formartine area flood victims were unaware of the sessions.

She explained: “Those attending got information about protecting their homes and are able to get a free advisory visit from the Flood Forum.

“I listened to concerns from residents about future flood events and what action can be taken to reduce the impact.

“More information will be available in the coming weeks but at the moment the council is still using all its resources to recover from flood damage.”

Tony and Rosemary Richardson’s property in Ellon’s Bruce Crescent was affected by the January flooding.

Mrs Richardson said: “We did find the session helpful in providing information and advice on what can be done to prevent future flooding.”

The drop-in events are held at Ellon Academy each Tuesday until April 5 from 6-9pm.
