An Inverurie man is taking to the chilly waters of the River Don weekend to raise money for the Garioch Carriage Driving for the Disabled Group.

Group member David McKeown, 56, will swim about a mile to Port Elphinstone this Saturday morning.

David, who will be supervised throughout, was confined to a wheelchair following an accident and has been carriage driving with the Garioch organisation’s disabled section for a number of years.

He wants to cover the costs of taking part in the Riding for the Disabled Association’s national carriage driving competition in Gloucestershire in July.

David said: “A big thank is due to the staff at the Inverurie pool for all their help and support with my training.”
