Ellon Rotarians are again supporting the Tools for Self Reliance (TFSR) charity and and are urging local people to donate their used and unwanted implements from workshops, garages and sheds.
The collection this year will take place on Saturday (April 1) and also on Saturday, April 15, at the town’s Tesco car park.
Implements can be donated from 10am until 1pm.
After collection, the tools will be taken to Camphill Rudolf Steiner School’s workshop at Bieldside where they will be refurbished.
They are then shipped to Malawi to provide local communities with tools for vocational training in a range of skills for people with disabilities and reduce poverty.
Trainees receive on-going support and skill development to assist them to earn a living and become self sufficient.
All types of implements are required ranging from gardening tools, leather working equipment, mechanical and woodwork tools, tailoring materials and sewing machines.
An Ellon Rtoary spokesman said that one beneficiary of the initiative is Theresa Bute.
She has a paralysed leg but with training in tailoring she has set up her own business and has made enough money to buy mattresses for her family, a goat and four pails of groundnuts.
The spokesman added that she is full of optimism for the future.
Anyone wanting to donate tools can take them to the Tesco car park or call Stephen on 07713098201 to arrange an alternative.
