Round up of North-east WRIs

At New Deer’s WRI, President Eileen Morrice welcomed members and friends to the January meeting.

Business was dealt with and speaker, Piers Claxton was introduced.

Piers gave a detailed account and slide show of his garden at Barrack, Knaven.

Piers and his wife Jennifer bought this barren land and developed it into a beautiful two acre garden.

The slide show spanned from 1997 to the present day, showing the progress. The garden consists of raised vegetable – beds, orchard, three ponds, herb and rose garden and beautiful herbaceous borders.

Eileen Morrice gave a vote of thanks and wished all a safe journey home.

The group celebrated their 95th Anniversary with a meal at the Brucklay Arms last December with guest, Moira McInnes who gave a talk.

Meanwhile, at Cultercullen WRI, President, Barbara Reid, welcomed Anne Duncan who gave a demonstration on felting. Members were able to try their hand at felting and Anne showed some of the work she had done including children’s toys and pictures.

Anne judged the competitions as follows: Small purse (any craft): Carol Ritchie, Carol Hay, Moreen Alexander; Double Shortbread: Moreen Alexander, Carol Ritchie, Carol Hay; Flower of the month: Moreen Alexander, Carol Ritchie.

Tea and the business meeting rounded the WRI off to an end.
