Former First Minister and SNP Gordon candidate, Alex Salmond, surprised an audience at Gadie’s restaurant in Touched by Scotland, Oyne by joining renowned broadcaster and singer, Freida Morrison on stage.

Mr Salmond joined Frieda to perform a duet of Traditional Scots ballad, The Four Marys, to a packed audience.

Commenting, Alex Salmond, said: “I’ve known the exceptionally talented Freida Morrison for years and I was delighted with the suggestion that I join her on stage here in the North East of Scotland, an area with an outstanding musical tradition.

“The Four Marys is a song of my childhood in Linlithgow, where Mary Stewart was born, and the experience certainly took me back to my days as a boy soprano.

“After topping the UK best sellers list with my book I thought it might be high time to turn my sights on The Charts!

“But people will be pleased to hear I’ll be sticking to singing the praises of our talented professionals in the Scottish folk scene and I’m not planning on giving up the day job any time soon!”

Freida Morrison added: “I knew that Alex was in tune with the North East of Scotland but I was keen to see how he’d fair on traditional music scene!”
