AN ELLON professional photographer has picked up a prestigious award from his peers, after making it through to the UK finals of a wedding photography competition.

Scott Hogg, who lives in the town’s Eilean Rise, fought off some stiff competition from other wedding photographers from across Britain to make it to the final ten submissions for the Master Photographers’ Association award.

This is the second year in a row which he has reached the UK final, on top of being named ‘Scottish Wedding Photographer of the Year’ in 2010.

The winners of the 2011 Wedding and Portrait Winners were announced at the Master Photography Awards 2011 Dinner, which was held recently at the Hilton Gateshead on Tyneside.

The photograph which took Scott to the finals - Flower Girls at Maryculter House - was taken in what he describes himself as being ‘less than optimal’ conditions.

“The photo was taken on a really windy day, so the girls’ hair was all over the place. However, I was quite impressed that the windy Aberdeen weather actually worked in my favour on this occasion!

“I’ve been in the top ten two years in a row now, so I’m pretty chuffed!”

Established in 1952 and with over 1700 members, the Master Photographers Association is the United Kingdom’s only organisation for full time, qualified and professional photographers.

The awards, formerly known as the ‘Kodak Wedding & Portrait Awards’ and more recently sponsored by Fujifilm, are now into their third decade.
