Ellon and District Art Group (EDAG) enjoyed a highly successful Silver Jubilee exhibition on Friday and Saturday of last week.

The annual exhibition was held in the Upper Room of the Kirk Centre and as well as their own exhibits, those of invited guest

artists Edi Swan and Frank Stephen were on display.

Since this was a celebration year, members had been asked not to just exhibit this year’s art, but to display their best art from any of their membership years.

Also a grand raffle was on offer, the star prize being a limited edition print of the acclaimed painting of Collieston by former founder member of the group, Janet Wallace.

This was kindly donated by Joe Wallace in memory of Janet and had been specially mounted and framed by art group members.

In addition this year, 80 pupils from Ellon Academy’s S3 art and design classes had entered a competition to win the newly-awarded 2015 Silver Jubilee Trophy, presented to Ellon Academy by EDAG.

Twenty pupils had their paintings selected for the grand final of the competition and these were also on show at the exhibition.

The judges, Hilary Gauci, Tonya McAlister and Edi Swan, were extremely impressed by the paintings of all twenty finalists.

Sophie Greig and Toby Ripley were each given ‘highly commended’ certificates and Alicia Allen was declared the winner.

The grand raffle draw was made and Norman Fraser, of Ellon, won the Collieston painting.

Sales at the end of the day, especially the raffle, went better than expected.

However, sales have never been the priority. EDAG’s prime objective has always been exhibiting art to Ellon and surrounding district for the enjoyment of the people, as well as their own, especially when it is so well received.

EDAG would like to thank all those who supported them in this special silver jubilee venture.
