Singers encouraged to come to Haddo!

YOUNGSTERS and adults interested in learning to sing are being encouraged to come along to Haddo house for lessons from professional local singers.

Trainer Alice Dennis is re-launching Haddo house Choral and Operatic Society’s junior section next week, which aims to introduce youngsters to the joys of music and singing, with three new choirs for youngster aged between 5 and 14. The main society is open to singers aged 14 and above.

Haddo Children’s Voices (age 5-9) will meet in Ellon Kirk Centre, Wednesday evenings from 6-7pm, with music ranging from silly warm ups, to jazzy, to traditional, to fun classical. Meanwhile Haddo Boys Voices is for boys aged between 10 and 18, and will include folk, jazz and musical numbers as well as the more traditional classical music. The group will rehearse in Ellon Parish Church on Tuesday evenings, 6.30 - 7.20pm. Lastly, but not least, Haddo Girls Voices (age 10-18) will meet in Ellon Parish Church on Tuesday evenings, 7.20 - 8.15pm, music will be specially tailored to suit teenage girls.

Many young singers from Haddo have gone on to successful professional careers or joined choirs throughout the UK; HHCOS have a proven track record in training and nurturing young talent. Young people in the Ellon area have the unique chance to make use of this asset and it is hoped many youngsters will take up this opportunity.

For older members who have ever toyed with the idea of joining a choir, but have been too nervous to try, now there is a chance to sing with a top choir for one night with no obligation. HHCOS, are hosting two ‘Come and Sing’ days this month for interested members of the public. The choir has many members presently who joined at such events and who had never sung before or had any musical experience. Now they enjoy the social connections, fun rehearsals, improving voices and the rewards of working in a group to achieve a high standard of performance.
