An Ellon group are preparing for a line-up of events to raise cash for cancer this month.
Friends and family decided to form ‘Skelpin’ Cancer 2014’ earlier this year in a bid to raise money for local cancer charities throughout 2014.
Paula Gibson has organised a bake sale which takes place in Neil Ross Square on Saturday, August 23 from 9am to 3pm.
Group members, friends and families are being brought in to provide tasty treats to sell with several members manning the stall on the day.
Any donations of homebakes would be appreciated and Paula can be contacted through the group’s Facebook page.
The ‘Station to Station Skelpin’ Cancer Sponsored Walk’ will be held the next day on Sunday, August 24.
The event will see around 30 people walk 8km along the Formartine and Buchan railway line between Udny Station and The Station Hotel. Afternoon tea will be waiting for them at the end point as a reward for their efforts.
The group have already raised thousands of pounds after holding a series of fundraising events including a ceilidh in March, family games night, a sponsored leg wax in April, collections in coin jars and a Rag Bag collection.
Member Lorna Keith said: “We have already raised a really good amount which will be divided between local charities during early January 2015.
“At this point, we don’t want to reveal the amount, but we’re really chuffed with the total so far.
“We have also had several members joining in with The Race for Life, the Great Scottish 20k Walk in Edinburgh done on behalf of Maggie’s Centre in Aberdeen and two members will be walking a section of the West Highland Way in September in aid of Breakthrough.”

Lorna added: “We have been really grateful for the support already received from family, friends and colleagues and wish to convey our thanks so far.”
