Nearly 100 runners turned out to participate in the first Ellon parkrun when it debuted last weekend.

In total 98 people took part in the 5km event on Saturday.

The parkrun started and finished at the Ellon Academy Community Campus and participants followed the riverside paths to Gordon Park and back again.

Event director, Steven Garden, said: “I moved back to the area last year and noticed that Ellon and the surrounding areas had formed very large running populations.

“I had no doubt that there would be enough support for a parkrun in Ellon.

“All it really needed was for someone to do the initial organisation and I was more than happy to take that on.”

Steven added: “My experience is that parkruns contribute positively to the community wherever they are and it feels good to get one started in the town where I grew up.”

Ellon’s parkruns will now take place each Saturday morning and are free to enter. For more details or to register as a runner visit: www.parkrun.org.uk
