Tesco Ellon is providing residents with the opportunity to nominate local groups to receive funding with the money raised from the 5p bag charge.

The funding will be given out to local groups and charities in order to help improve green spaces within Ellon and ensure they are enjoyed by everyone.

Tesco encourage local community groups and charities to apply for the funding which ranges from £8,000 to £12,000.

They also encourage Ellon residents to nominate their favourite local charity or group for the project.

Local communities across the UK will benefit from the supermarket’s funding scheme .

Projects that will be given the green light as a result of the funding will include building new pocket parks, sports facilities, woodland walks and community gardens.

Administration of the local funding will be handled by environmental improvement charity, Groundwork, which specialises in transforming and improving local green spaces.

Tesco aim to provide over two thousand different projects from across the UK with funding using money from the bag charge after just one year.

There are two voting rounds a year and nominations will be reduced to three good causes that customers can choose from to vote for in each area.
