Ellon and District Councillor Gillian Owen is continuing in her efforts to reduce the speed limit on the A948 road in Ellon.

Councillor Owen recently persuaded Aberdeenshire Council to install a sign which displays traffic speed on the road between the Golf Road junction and the first turning for Knockothie Cresent.

Councillor Owen told the Times: “It has been clear for some while that the Golf Road access has caused a number of road traffic accidents.

“I was pleased when Council Officers agreed to monitor the speed on the road leading to the junction.”

The sign has now been moved to monitor another location and the data will be analysed.

Councillor Owen added: “I firmly believe that the speed limit should be reduced, particularly with the increased traffic through the Balmacassie Industrial Estate and the future plans for the cemetery on the other side of the road.

“I am determined to ‘speed up’ this campaign.

“I hope the ‘change of gear’ by the Council facilitating the allocation of this sign to the A948 is a symbol of them listening to residents’ concerns!”
