Aberdeenshire East MSP Alex Salmond has sought urgent reassurances from Aberdeenshire Council regarding the proposed new Transport Hub in Inverurie.
Mr Salmond has requested assurances over the time-scale for the development, following the Garioch Area Committee’s vote for a preferred design earlier this year.
The proposed Hub would create 240 new parking spaces at Inverurie Station, bus stances outside the existing historic station buildings and improved access provision for pedestrians and cyclists. Mr Salmond says that the Council has little to show in progress towards beginning construction.
Mr Salmond said, “I have written to Aberdeenshire Council seeking urgent clarification over these latest delays to a much needed and long overdue facility for Inverurie.
“The Area Committee’s decision in June cannot have come as a surprise to the local authority, who should have been primed to get cracking on working up a detailed design and identifying the remaining funding required for the new transport hub. The local community has campaigned hard over many years to bring the project to this stage. Patience will wear thin if the Council continues to keep local people in the dark and drags its heels on this vital infrastructure project.”
