The town of Ellon has been saddened by the untimely death of one of its most remarkable, and respected women.

Maureen O’Brien, 55, passed away in the Auchmacoy GP Unit after a long and brave battle with illness.

Mo, as she was better known to her family and many friends, was a prominent figure in the local community, and a regular visitor to the town’s McDonald Park where she exercised and trained dogs for the Guide Dogs for the Blind.

She was always happy to pass the time of day with other walkers.

Mo was also a member of the McDonald Golf Club where she was popular and loved by her fellow members.

A huge number of golfers, including her partner Jim, were present at Aberdeen Crematorium on Monday of last week to say their last farewells.

Mo had left instructions for mourners to wear bright colours to the service.

Despite being diagnosed with cancer a number of years ago, she continued to walk the dogs, always finding time to inquire about the welfare of others when she was out and about.

Mo would have been particularly pleased that £877 was collected for the Guide Dogs for the Blind after the well-attended service.
