A number of protesters carrying Mexican flags turned up on site before Mr Trump’s arrival but police officers were on hand to keep them away.

The businessman’s visit to the north east was intended to be a family affair, however this failed to stop press from around the world stopping by to ask him questions on topics including Scottish independence and presidential issues.

Speaking about his Menie Estate course, Mr Trump said: “This is one of the great sights - these are among the largest dunes in the world, it’s really spectacular.”

When asked about the Mexican flags raised by protesters, he said: “Most neighbours love us, I have one or two who are a little contentious but that’s fine because they lost. It’s like some of the people I beat in the primaries - they aren’t exactly in love with me.

“Back when I bought the land here everybody said it would be impossible to get it zoned but I got it zoned.”

Mr Trump even added that documentary makers failed to find anyone that didn’t like him as he explained: “They tried to find people that disliked Donald Trump in Aberdeen, they couldn’t find any.

“They couldn’t believe it, they actually called me and said “the biggest problem we have is we can’t find anybody who doesn’t like you” and that’s because of what I have done for Aberdeen.”

Mr Trump welcomed friend Rupert Murdoch and his wife Jerry Hall to Menie Estate before flying back to New York on Saturday evening.
