Friends, Amy and Rebecca, from Ellon, came home with grins as well as matching trophies last weekend.

Amy Robertson, 10, and Rebecca Shand, 11, headed to The City of Inverness Championship on Sunday, July 28.

The girls competed in their own age categories and both won their first pre-championship awards.

Amy went on to win pre-championship dancer of the day.

The girls have been attending Rosaline Hendry School of Highland Dancing since they were around the age of four.

Amy’s mum, Gillian, said: “They go to the classes twice a week and love it.

“Amy has won at local festivals before but never a big competiton.

“This is a first for them both.

“We are absolutely delighted.

“You’re never sure what’s going to happen on the day, it was a big surprise.”

As well as practicing and competing, the friends and their mum’s had to travel some distance for the event.

Gillian said: “We travelled down the night before, so it was a really long day, but it was worth the wait! On the way home the girls asked for a KFC so that was their treat!”

Dance teacher, Rosaline Hendry said: “The girls work very hard in clasS.

“There are a group of four of them who get along really well and now all of them have won their pre’s.

“It was a very special day because both of the girls won and they could only do this because they were competing in different age sections.

There were tears when they won.”

Rebecca’s mum, Nicola, was equally happy with the results.

Nicola said: “It was really nerve wracking but such a shock.

“Rebecca takes it all in her stride.

“I think the girls were just as delighted with their KFC meal on the way home!”
