An Ellon mother-of two is organising a major fitness event next month to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.

Vicki McFarlane has launched a fund-raising campaign for the charity and is preparing to take part in the Edinburgh Marathon at the end of May.

But first she is focusing on a fitness afternoon in the Victoria Hall on Sunday, May 10.

The various classes will be taken by local Les Mills fitness instructor Amanda Mackay and other instructors
from Aberdeen.

Vicki, 31, began her fund-raising activities earlier this year and has raised around £2600 through a coffee morning and raffle and online raffles and selling fudge.

She has been inspired by her late grandmother to support the BHF. Evelyn Tewnion died suddenly of a heart attack 18 years ago and Vicki decided she wanted to do her bit to help the organisation.

The fitness afternoon will get under way at 1pm through until 5pm.

Vicki told the Times: “It’s an event very much for people who have never done any classes before, as well as for those who attend regularly.

“It would be a great opportunity for them to come along and try a class and see what
they like.

“They are a friendly bunch of people and I have made some fantastic friends there.

“Everybody has to start somewhere, so why not come along. It’s great fun.”

The opening class from 1.15-2pm will be body step.

From 2.10-2.55 instructors will run a body attack class and 3-3.30 will be devoted to Sh’Bam dance routine.

The afternoon’s remaining classes will be body balance, from 3.40-4.10, and body combat, which will run
from 4.15-5pm.

Tickets for the fitness work-outs are £15 which will cover
all classes.

Meanwhile, Vicki, who has a daughter Kacey-Jai aged eight and son Kodi three, is stepping up her training for the Edinburgh marathon.

She has had strong support in her campaign from her family, particularly
husband Andrew.

Vicki, who only started running a year ago, said: “The marathon will be my first and it’s now only six weeks away.

“I’m stepping up training and in the next couple of weeks will be increasing my main weekly run to 22 miles.”
