A Pitmedden singer who has become a household name in America is to return to his North-east roots for a Hogmanay spectacular.
Terry McDermott will headline Ellon’s New Year extravaganza, Gig at the Brig 2013.
Terry shot to fame after taking runner-up spot in TV show The Voice USA.
The Hogmanay festival in the town centre is being put together by community group Ellon Events who are delighted to have landed the rising star.
Terry made the announcement when he appeared with his band the Bonfires at a sell-out show at Aberdeen’s Lemon Tree on Sunday.
This was the band’s first date of their mini European tour to promote their new EP and take part in TV and radio interviews.
Terry told the Lemon Tree crowd they were delighted to be able to headline the inaugural Ellon Hogmanay event.
Ellon Events committee secretary, Kevin Coghill said: “To put this monumental achievement into perspective Terry was runner-up in arguably the biggest talent show in the world.
“The Bonfires first single release went straight to number 1 in the itunes download chart with their follow up single almost doing the same they have just done a sell out show at New York’s Gramercy theatre, and are in demand for live appearances coast to coast across the States.
“Terry had done an excellent selling job for Ellon and they are all so enthusiastic about what a great night they are going to have.”
Mr Coghill praised Terry’s Nashville-based agent Ruth Gonzalez for arranging the Ellon appearance.
Local artist Jake Coghill was also on Sunday’s bill and met the band members.
The New Year party will be held in Market Street.
Aberdeen’s Silver City Soul Revue have also confirmed they will appear and negotiations to complete the bill are continuing.
