AN URGENT appeal has been made to keep open Methlick Parish Church’s popular Friday morning cafe.

Cafe in the Kirk has been run for more than eight years by Margaret McHardy, but she is moving to Burntisland in Fife in the next few weeks.

Now a plea has been made for a local volunteer, or volunteers, to take on the tea shop.

Margaret started the Friday cafe in January, 2004. There is a separate cafe which is open on a Wednesday.

She said: “I thought it would be a good way of new people in Methlick meeting each other. It has become such a popular place and people know that they can come along and have a friendly cup of tea or coffee and a chat.”

Margaret, whose last day will be on July 13, provides most of the baking while other volunteers also help out. The cafe is free but people are invited to make a donation.

She added: “I have loved the cafe and I’m really going to miss it. I won’t know what to do with myself on Friday mornings.”

Church elder Val Mitchell said: “The cafe has become an essential and popular part of Methlick life. Margaret will be missed by everyone, but none more so than by the patrons of the Friday morning cafe.

“She is irreplaceable but perhaps there may be someone who knows they have an inner ‘tea shop’ in them.”
