Lynn Gilbert from the Friends of McDonald Park and Eddie Graham from Ellon Athletics have been rewarded for their hard work.

The pair were nominated by Ellon councillor Gillian Owen for this year’s Provost’s Volunteers Reception, where they were thanked for their efforts and presented with certificates to mark their contribution to the community.

Lynn has enjoyed the McDonald Park since moving to Ellon in 1972 and is extremely keen to see it being kept for all.

Apart from the routine things like the burn clean and litter picks, she has been involved in planting bulbs, especially in Caroline’s Well Wood.

Meanwhile, in 2006, Eddie took his two youngest daughters to the Primary School XC race at Haddo run by Ellon Athletics Club.

He quickly went from parent to parent helper, to volunteer and then to coach, and at times over the last decade virtually every job that exists in an athletics club.

Commenting on the nominations, Cllr Owen said: “It is always a difficult choice to make the nominations and I have tended to nominate people from within the organisations I have a role.

“Events like these are so important because there are a huge number of volunteers throughout my Ward and Aberdeenshire who are true unsung heroes.

“To be able to say thank you is crucial and means a lot to those that are invited.

“My congratulations to Lynn and Eddie.

Cllr Owen was on holiday at the time of the awards, as was Lynn, but managed to carry out a local presentation to the pair.
