THE events programme for the Saturday, November 19 switching on of Ellon’s Christmas lights has been revealed, with a promise of music, fireworks and even a visit from Santa Claus himself.
The North Pole’s most famous resident will be in his grotto in Neil Ross Square between 10am-12.30pm and from 1pm-4pm. Elsewhere in the square, there will be face painting and the chance to shop at Christmas market stalls throughout the day.
Between 10am and 3.30pm, there will be a range of sales tables in the Ythan Centre, along with the chance to buy raffle tickets and enjoy Fairtrade teas and coffees.
There will also be a ‘Circus Skills Workshop’ running at the Kirk Centre between 12pm and 2pm, with entry priced at one pound.
Ellon’s Festive Prince and Princess, Primary Sevens Scott Fraser & Karen Murray of Ellon Primary School, will be counting down to the switching on of the Christmas lights at 4.30pm.
The parade, which begins at the Academy Annexe playground, stops at The Chestnuts for the lights switch-on, before proceeding east along Station Road to The Square, Market Street, Bridge Street, then back along Station Road (east) to The Square and into Riverside Car Park to watch the fireworks at 5pm.
Other vantage points for the fireworks include the Auld Brig, Market Street and the Riverside car park.
Throughout the day, there will be musical entertainment as the Buchan Community Radio Roadshow with DJ Ronnie & Johnny Logan play Christmas hits.
There will also be plenty of live music, with local band ‘Next Yesterday’ will showcase their talent at Neil Ross Square at 11.00am and 4pm.
‘Flyagaric’ will perform stilt-walking & balloon modelling skills throughout the town centre during the day. Later, the Ythan Fiddlers will be performing in Neil Ross Square in the early afternoon, followed by The Ythan Singers at 2.30pm and by the Haddo Choir in Market Street at 4pm.
