An Ellon juvenile football team are trying to drum up support for an Easter tournament in Spain.

The Meadows Under-15 club are heading for the Trofeo Mediteranneo in Barcelona and need to raise £25,000 to cover the costs of the trip.

But they are well short of their target at the moment and are stepping up their fundraising drive.

The club are holding a casino-disco evening in Ellon’s Station Hotel on Saturday, November 23, and are billing it as a Christmas night out.

Fundraising organiser Julie Cranna told the Times they had raised around £5000 so far towards the cost of the week-long visit to Barcelona.

She said: “We have been holding various activities to bring in money and have others planned, including a Christmas shopping night in the Station Hotel on the 3rd of December and we are holding a race night in February.

“We are hoping to sell up to 150 tickets for the casino night and disco - at the moment we have sold 50.

“We have a lot of great raffle prizes and we are hoping local people will support the event.”

The casino night gets under way at 7.30 and with the disco will continue until late.

Tickets, available from the Station Hotel, cost £12 and include stovies and £1000 of play money. The casino is being hosted by Ellon Round Table.
