ELLON Academy was strongly represented at the recent Big Cello Day in Aberdeen, with young cellists from the town playing to hundreds of people.
Daniel Hook, Ross McKeown, Sophie Smith and Yoshe Watson were among the 100 participants playing to an audience of around 300 people at the International School, Pitfodels, on June 19. The gathering, described by organisers as ‘the biggest gathering of cellists in Scotland’, featured participants from across the north-east of Scotland and beyond, with well known pieces performed by Aberdeen Cello Ensemble.
Organiser Gareth John of Banff told the Times that the Ellon youngsters had acquitted themselves well.
He said: “Our four youngsters from the Ellon area were tremendous contributors to the event,”
Participant Daniel Hook added that he had thoroughly enjoyed the event, and that it was a pleasure to meet like minded musicians.
“It was really good to be surrounded by fellow cellists,” he said. “We had a great time, and really enjoyed ourselves.”
