Three generations of a footballing family are over the moon after Titan Torque Services donated new strips to Balmedie Primary School’s Under-9s football team.
Titan Torque presented the kit after hearing about the team through former Highland League player of the year Jim Gerrard, a torque technician at the Aberdeen-based oil services company. Jim’s son Steve, a Highland League player for several years, also welcomed the sponsorship, as his son Joshua plays as a striker for the school team.
Bruce Jepp, Business Development Director at Titan Torque, said: “Jim is one of the Titan Torque team and we were only too happy to help Balmedie Primary School. Joshua is doing well and it looks like he’s following in the footsteps of his granddad and dad.”
Jim played for Elgin City, Caley, Huntly and a host of junior football teams before hanging up his boots at 49 after a spell playing in the Aberdeen Welfare League. He still plays five-a-sides at the age of 68.
Steve made his name at Stonehaven Juniors, Peterhead, Lossiemouth, Cove Rangers and Deveronvale. Amateurs Great Western United are currently getting the benefit of the 43-year-old’s experience.
Head teacher of Balmedie Primary school, Ken McGowan, said: “I’m delighted with this sponsorship agreement for our school’s under-9s football team.
“We are a health promoting school and follow the team’s progress very closely throughout the season.”
