Ythan CC riders of all ages had another busy weekend competing across Scotland with events at Forres, Glasgow, Garlogie and even in the north of England.

At Forres, the club was well represented at the annual time trial weekend consisting of a ten-mile TT at Kinloss, a 25-mile TT on the A96 and a hilly 18-mile TT around the Pluscarden and Califer area.

The ten-mile TT saw Colin Duncan best placed of the Ythan contingent with a 22m 55s time being enough to secure seventh place.

Duncan was the only Ythan rider to take part in all three events and an 11th place and a fourth place in the 25TT and Hilly TT respectively was enough to give him third place overall for the weekend of racing.

At Garlogie the annual Spring Bunny 25-mile TT was held on the Raemoir/Torphins course and amid damp conditions Bill Bavidge was the top Ythan rider with a time of 1 hour 51 seconds placing seventh behind winner Lee Smith (Aberdeen Wheelers).

Mike Giles followed up his good performance at Forres the previous day by finishing 12th in 1hr 2m 34s while Chris Main and Darren Stewart finished 15th and 24th respectively with Carol Middleton finishing 1st Lady.

Further afield and the club’s youth riders were competing in Glasgow and Durham with Saturday’s Kames Klassic being held on an impressive kart circuit at Muirkirk.

Raced in good weather, the U12 race saw Ythan producing a first place through Fraser Gault.

Melanie Rowe raced in the U8 race finishing send girl and fifth overall in a closely-contested finish while elder brother Elliot was part of an exciting race that saw him win the U10 after launching what was described as an “awesome” attack on the last lap.

Next up for Oldmeldrum youngster Gault was Sunday’s race at Hetton Lyons Country Park, Durham.

This race was the first event in the National series and had 70 entrants in Cat ‘C’ U12 and after 12 miles Gault secured a very creditable 17th with only 2.5 seconds separating him from second place.
