Colony Locos maintained their lead at the top of the league with a deserved win against previously unbeaten Glentanar at the Garioch Sports Centre.

After an early scare when a free kick at the edge of the box was headed narrowly wide the Locos almost opened the scoring when a Joe McCabe lob from outside the box hit the crossbar. But McCABE wasn’t to be denied on 20 minutes when he outpaced the Glens defence, clipped the ball past the advancing keeper and rolled it into the unguarded net.

Colony were dominating with Woodgreaves and Gee bossing the midfield, and several chances were created but not converted, however their lead was doubled on 40 minutes when the ball broke to Phillip WOODGREAVES in the box and he curled his shot around the keeper into the far corner to put a more realistic reflection on the half-time score.

Glentanar came out after the break with a bit more purpose, and the Colony defence had to be alert on more than one occasion, but home side extended their lead on 55 minutes when great interplay down the left hand side saw a shot parried to Rhys SIMPSON who finished expertly from inside the box to put daylight between the teams.

The remainder of the game was littered with stoppages for injuries and free-kicks which disrupted the flow, but the Colony defence was well-organised, and restricted Glentanar to few opportunities, although keeper Cammy Garden did make one remarkable save to turn a close range shot around the post and preserve his clean sheet.

Matthew Douglas had a late chance to make it 4-0 but pressure from the recovering defender allowed the keeper to smother the ball. Colony saw out the game for a satisfying victory after a hard-fought 90 minutes.
