Colony Park Juniors open their pre-season with a good win

Colony Park welcomed Carnoustie Panmure from the Junior East Superleague and came out on top 2-1 in the side’s first pre-season friendly.

The team’s performance was a vast improvement from the last time the clubs met in the Scottish Junior Cup when the Carnoustie won by six goals.

Carnoustie had the better of the early exchanges with Ness heading off the line for Colony and Buggins had a shot just wide of the post.

In 15 minutes Bremner went close for Colony when a defensive clearance came back off his leg and was just wide of the post. Colony recorded their first corner after 25 minutes but the ensuing kick was cleared by the Carnoustie defence.

A minute later Strachan had a shot well saved after being put though on goal by Crosbie. Colony continued to press with Ross going close and Bremner and Strachan having shots blocked.

In 36 minutes an excellent move featuring Wilson, Ross and Davidson ended with Strachan’s shot being well stopped by Ferrie the Carnoustie keeper.

Carnoustie had a couple of close efforts from Marc Scott and Kohler near the end of the half while the final action saw Ferrie save brilliant ly from a Roddie effort leaving the sides goalless at the interval.

In the second half Colony struck first when Andi BREMNER latched on to a pass and the placed the ball past Ferrie to give Colony Park the lead. A couple of minutes later the same player had a shot saved.

In 58 minutes Ross made a strong run from the middle of the park and was brought down just outside the box. Crosbie took the resultant free kick and his shot was saved by Ferrie. Colony remained on top with Strachan and Bremner going close.

In 65 minutes Calvin Roddie was brought down in the box as he sidestepped a Panmure defender and the referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty to Colony Park. RODDIE stepped up and placed the ball high into the keepers left hand corner ,sending him the wrong way, to give Colony a two goal lead.

A couple of minutes later Carnoustie pulled a goal back when Ewan BUGGINS scored from close range as the home side failed to clear their lines. In 81 minutes Ross and Strachan combined well with Ross just shooting wide. Carnoustie pressed for an equaliser near the end and sub keeper Garden brought off a great save from McIlravery in time added leaving Colony Park as winners. Throughout the second half both teams used all their substitutes giving all the players important minutes in their quest for match fitness.

Overal this was a good win for Colony Park as they build up to the new season which starts on Saturday, August 2.

• On Monday night (Juy 21) Colony Park and Formartine United met in Inverurie in a pre-season friendly match with Formartine winning 4-0. The game was a good workout for both teams as they build up to the new season. Scorers for Formartine were Trialist, McVittie, Smith and Napier.
