Colony U17s brave conditions to win

Colony Park U17s were up against Huntly in one of the few matches to go ahead on Saturday and the only Colony Park Juvenile match over the weekend.

The wind was howling down the pitch and there were flurries of snow which made it difficult for both sides. With the wind in their backs for the first half Colony struggled to make any openings and fell behind midway through the half.

With only seven minutes left of the half they equalised when Mike Donaldson drilled in a cross from the bye line for Fraser GILL to push home. This gave Colony a lift, and just before the half time whistle they took the lead when Ally Blair played in Craig Mackie and his low cross was tapped in on the line by Rhu COLE. The second half couldn’t have started worse for Colony when, after a silly foul, Huntly scored from the free kick. The weather continued to play a part in the match and the referee talked to both captains about ending the match early, but a lull in the wind and snow allowed the game to finish.

A good passing move from the right involving Gill and Dale Rennie found Josh PROUD free inside the box and he finished well to seal the result for Colony with 15 minutes to go.

Final score Colony Park 3, Huntly 2, a result which sees the Inverurie side in fifth place in the table.
