Formartine United have been drawn to face Brora Rangers in the first round of the Scottish Cup.

It will be United’s first foray into the national competition and the tie will be played at North Lodge Park on Saturday, August 25.

The draw was made by Hearts’ Scottish Cup winning captain Marius Zaliuskas at Edinburgh Castle on Monday.

Formartine officials, while glad of home advantage, believe it will be a tricky tie.

Club secretary Martin Johnston told the Times: “We are really excited about taking part in the Scottish Cup for the first time.

It will be a historic occasion at North Lodge and we are hoping to get a big crowd on the day.

“Brora have strengthened their squad during the summer so we are expecting a difficult game.

“We have been quietly adding to our squad as well.

Meanwhile, Formartine continued their pre-season build up with a 9-1 trouncing of Bridge of Don Thistle at the weekend.

Another United squad also faced junior opposition, beating Hall Russell United 3-1.
