Formartine home in on title

FORMARTINE United will be crowned Highland League champions if they beat Nairn County at home on Saturday.

The Pitmedden side eased past Buckie Thistle 3-0 at North Lodge Park on Wednesday night.

Two goals from Mike Ewen, one in each half, and a late header from Craig McKeown saw off the Moray side.

Formartine manager Steve Paterson described it as a good performance and said they now had two opportunities at home to clinch the title - the first against Nairn and then against rivals Cove Rangers the following week.

United are unbeaten at home all season and will be spurred on to get the job done this Saturday.

Nairn were also in action on Wednesday night losing out to a last-minute goal at Wick, who moved above them in the table.
