Colony Locos 19s recorded a vital 3-2 win at Stonehaven at the weekend.

With both sides on a decent run of form this was always going to be a close encounter and so it proved.

In the first 10-15 minutes Locos enjoyed some decent possession with McCabe, Burr and Gordon linking up well on a number of occasions.

Locos deservedly took the lead inside the first 10 minutes after Stonehaven failed to clear their lines and McCabe pounced to beat a few defenders and calmly slot past the advancing keeper.

This seamed to spur the home side into life and it would be fair to say that they pretty much dominated the remaining 25-30 minutes of the half with Locos having only sporadic forays forward.

Stonehaven eventually equalised around the half hour mark, which their play deserved.

Both teams had a few half chances but Stonehaven were maybe unlucky not to go into the break one ahead after the keeper pulled off a point blank save.

Two well-matched sides were cancelling each other out and it had 1-1 written all over it until a mistake just inside the Locos area allowed Stonehaven to edge ahead with around 15 minutes remaining.

As in the first half, the trailing team burst into life with Locos stepping up the pace and they equalised within five minutes when Burr was fed down the line, cut inside and beat two defenders before slotting past the keeper from just inside the area for 2-2.

Within minutes Locos grabbed what proved to be the winner when Gee launched a high hanging cross in from the left which the home keeper spilled for McCabe to slot home.

Manager Alan Gordon said afterwards: “Stonehaven can feel aggrieved that they didn’t take anything from a game that they put so much into, but Locos can feel very upbeat about taking all three points from a good, well-drilled and hard- working Stonehaven side who are going to be in the mix at the business end of the season.”
