It was an extra special day for Inverurie Locos Club Chairman Eddie Innes on Saturday.
Prior to kick off in a “Surprise, Surprise” scenario, Mr Innes was asked to officially open the stand reconstructed in the summer and named after him to honour his 37 years’ devoted service to the club.
Mr Innes took up the story, “Saturday was such a strange day for me as the penny dropped as I stood at the entry to the pitch, alongside Mike Macaulay and former Chairman Willie Lippe unsure as to why my family were at the hospitality area.
“I hate being centre of attraction but also not knowing what was going on made it worse.
“However I am humbled and extremely honoured to be awarded such a legacy, in fact ecstatic, and want to express massive thanks to those who kept an excellent secret which has made me and my close family extremely proud.
“I am off to see my Grandson in Australia and he will in time be amazed his Grandad has a stand named after him in his home town. I cannot thank everyone enough, including Scott Buchan and Kenny Coull, the team’s performance capped an excellent day “
