Ellon United remain stuck on the three-point mark after losing 3-1 to Banks o’ Dee under the lights at Spain Park last Friday night.
An even first half saw the sides go in locked at 0-0 with Dee’s Abbot passing up the best chance before a shot from Dev Kennedy-Colbert was blocked with Grant Thomson’s effort from the rebound flying over.
United took the lead early after the break. They forced a corner on the right and although Thomson’s header from the cross was blocked, the Ellon midfielder followed up to bundle the ball home.
This setback appeared to spur on the home side who began to have more of the possession without troubling John Calder in the United goal.
Dee made a couple of substitutions which began to tell and they were rewarded in the 70th minute.
A neat chip through saw two Dee players standing in an offside position, but substitute Barton time his run perfectly to get in behind the United defence and score with a low shot into the far corner.
Dee went in front three minutes later, breaking quickly down their left and firing in a wicked low cross which was turned in by sub Allan flying in at the back post.
A controversial moment in the 85th minute saw Ellon penalised for what the referee deemed to be a deliberate passback in the goal area.
It resulted in United’s influential skipper Mark Lawson being red carded for two cautions, but the free kick came to nothing.
The home side completed the scoring in the 87th minute with almost a carbon copy of their second goal with Allan again coming in at pace to finish off a low cross from the left.
