Inverurie Locos kept up their 100 per cent start to the new league season, clocking up their second successive win by the odd goal in five in four days and were certainly not allowed a straightforward passage by a hardworking Strathspey Thistle side.

An early Ross Anderson header from six yards out showed the intent of the home side fresh from their annual start of season photoshoot. However they were in for a shock.

Against the run of play, a hopeful long ball through the middle of the Locos defence was latched on to by Josh PETERS who outfought the home centre backs before beating Andy Reid with a flick from the edge of the box.

The home side’s resistance lasted only nine minutes before Jordan Leyden and John Maitland ripped open the right side of the away defence. Lurking in the penalty spot, Dean DONALDSON timed his run to perfection as he converted the low cross into the far corner.

Then a breathtaking run down the right by Leyden saw him beat three players with apparent ease, he was unlucky to see his attempted chip rise just too high over the cross bar to finish off a brilliant move.

The visitors just failed to retaking the lead as Adam McLeod charged down the field in animpressive counter attack. Choosing to slot the ball past Reid at his near post, McLeod could only watch as the ball struck the woodwork before rebounding back to a Locos player to clear the danger.

Locos captain Neil McLean took control of the game, he worked his way down the right flank before feeding in the waiting Leyden. Spotting a committed keeper, LEYDEN curled the ball over Martin with the outside of his boot to give his team a half time lead

Into the second half, McLean fed the ball into Leyden who in return slotted into the path of fellow scorer Donaldson. Deano somehow managed to find the wrong side of the far post. Then an in swinging McLean corner almost undid he Strathspey defence as it met the head of a towering Andy Hunter, only for his glancing effort to skim off the cross bar.

Locos were swiftly punished for failing to kill the game as Strathspey drew level with 20 minutes of the match left A just reward after holding the ball well in midfield, Josh PETERS suddenly found himself with a chance after a poked ball through the defence. Chased down by Maitland,

Peters managed to get his toe on the ball first to poke past Reid from 15 yards.

Knowing time was running out and three points were necessary to keep pace with a rampant Brora, the search was for a late winner. After winning a handful of corners and placing a few shots wide of target, the home side finally managed to clinch the winning goal.

Neil McLean provided the initial effort from the edge of the box which brought a brilliant reaction save out of Steve Martin, only for Andy HUNTER to react first to the loose ball to nod the ball into the now empty net.
