Inverurie Locos continued their pre season preparations with a Saturday afternoon away day at the Grangemouth Sports Centre against Scottish League opposition East Stirlingshire.
With the sound of the Chuff Chuffs’ bugles, drums and tambourines resounding loudly from the stand, this was never going to be a low key key event. Wearing yellow tops and royal shorts, Locos were a goal behind at half time but had a good chance in the opening 45, David Ross almost putting his side ahead from a Neil Gauld centre
Into the second period, Greg Mitchell was just too high with a free kick while at the other end Shire hit the post with an over hit cross then hit the bar with the rebound. And with fifteen minutes to go a Ross shot was just too high
Although the visitors went two behind, a bigger concern was the withdrawal through injury of Kieran Adams and Mark Souter
However to the rescue once again came the enigmatic Neil Gauld, netting two excellent goals in the closing five minutes to earn a draw. Indeed Gauldy came close to a winner with a header before sub Ryan Keir looked odds on to net as the full time whistle blew
Another very useful exercise for the squad and this Saturday they travel away again, this time to Spartans, kick off 1pm.
Team: Mathieson, Young, Still, McLean, Adams, Anderson, Hunter, Souter, Gauld, Mitchell, Ross
Subs: Keir, Forsyth, Buchan, Coull, Reid
