After the match the celebrating Locos captain Neil McLean said, “It’s been a great day having all my family around me including my sister over from Hong Kong. The weather topped it off, it was brilliant for everyone. Aberdeen FC brought out a strong squad, I’m grateful to them for that. And I really enjoyed the game.
“The older guys, our guest players, lasted really well in the first half, we slipped into our old ways playing together. It was a real pleasure to be playing alongside Tommy, Craig, Ally, Roddy, Jack and of course our co-managers Scott and Kenny.
“The Dons are obviously full time, we were always going to struggle with that but we acquitted ourselves well.
“I should have stepped up to take the penalty but Deano is one of our regular spot kick takers so I left him to it.“
Meanwhile co-boss Coull added to the plaudits but emphasised the double purpose of the game, “Neil deserves it, he has been ten years at the club and is fully committed, he got the attendance he deserves, it was good for him and great for the crowd to see so many Aberdeen FC first team squad players.
“It served a perfect purpose for us as preparation for our opening game away at Turriff in the Aberdeenshire Cup. It’s been frustrating for Scott and myself, we’ve been limited in numbers with what we’ve had to work with. But in the last couple of games, the squad has taken shape again nicely.”
