A NEIL McVitie hat-trick helped Formartine United to a 4-0 win over Deveronvale at North Lodge Park on Wednesday night.

The victory puts the Pitmedden side in second place, two points behind Wick Academy, who were thrashed 5-0 by Brora, but with three games in hand.

Formartine’s opening goal arrived in 32 minutes when McVitie’s shot took a deflection off Hutchinson to leave the keeper helpless.

McVitie had more good fortune five minutes later when he charged down a McConnachie clearance and the ball rebounded into the net.

United increased their lead with 15 minutes left when Munro netted from close range from a Daniel Park flick-on.

McVitie completed his hat-trick in 81 minutes when he finished off a Michael Ewen cross.

The midfielder failed to find the net last season, but his tally so far this term is eight.

Formartine have another home game on Saturday when they face fourth-placed Clach.
