North East Scotland football round-up

On Tuesday, July 9 July New Pitsligo entertained Faithlie United in the Deejays Nightclub League It was always going to be a hard task when the visitors could only muster 12 players including former keeper Coyle but the away side took the lead on 13 minutes when a Whyte cross was put in by Martin Buchan. The home side hit back on 23 minutes with a goal from Gerald McCluskey. They went ahead 3 minutes before half time through Olly Black. On the hour the home side’s Daniel Kewley scored another to earn 3 points.

Mormond Thistle faced the high flying Bellslea and it ended in a comfortable win for the away side scoring 5 times without reply. Jonathan Garden netted a hatrick, one a 25 yard freekick and one each from Daryl Allan and Arron Gall.

St Combs faced league leaders New Pitsligo and with the home side missing players it was always going to be an uphill task. The match ended with a 4-1 win for New Pitsligo, The winning goals came from Michael Fraser 2, Peter Stewart and Neil Christie with one each and for the home side was Neil Taylor.

Faithlie United faced Mintlaw in a league game and it was the home side‘s Martin Buchan that came close when his shot hit the post. A Fraser Anderson shot was turned round the post by keeper Townsend. A few minutes before half time Mintlaw were reduced to 10 men after Scott martin was sent off. Ryan Thomson came close to opening the scoring when he tried to lobb the keeper but it went over the bar. A Mintlaw free kick was curled to back post where Munro headed back across goal where a Jamieson headed was saved by Coyle. A slip by Daniel Reid left Nicol Davidson free on the right and he played in a great ball to leave Stuart park in on goal and he cooly lifted the ball over Coyle and into the net. A great win by the 10 men Mintlaw who battled hard throughout the game and well marshalled by Forbes at the back.

In the Brucklay cup quarter-final, Bellslea faced the young Elizabethan Link Up team and once more the away side were no match for the more experienced Bellslea team. Bellslea scored 5 goals in each half to win 10 nil with Jonathan Garden who netting 6.
