FORMARTINE United closed the gap at the top of the table to three points with an edgy 1-0 win at Keith on Wednesday night.
A Paul Napier penalty in the 25th minute was enough to give the Pitmedden side victory and leave them closing in on leaders Cove Rangers with four games in hand.
Manager Steve Paterson admitted it was a nervous performance and praised Keith for pushing them all the way.
The only goal arrived when Napier had his heels clipped in the box by Wood. Napier took the spot kick and sent Horne the wrong way.
The home side had claims for a penalty turned down in the final minute when it appeared that Hamish Munro handled inside the 18-yard area, but referee Sim waved play on.
Next up for Formartine is a clash with title rivals Clachnacuddin at North Lodge Park on Saturday. Kick-off is at 3pm.
