Formartine United humbled Elgin City with a stunning 5-1 win in their Ramsdens Cup second round tie at North Lodge Park on Wednesday night.
Cammy Keith netted a hat-trick in 10 minutes and the victory takes the Pitmedden side into the quarter-finals.
City had taken an early lead but United fought back and after Elgin were reduced to 10 men, the home side steamrollered their League 2 opponents.
Manager Steve Paterson described it as a “fantastic” result against his former club and praised their second half performance.
City manager Ross Jack said the dismissal left them chasing the game but conceded that Formartine were worthy winners.
Elgin took the lead in the sixth minute when Crichton bulleted home a header.
Formartine equalised in the 14th minute when Ewen fired home from eight yards.
The turning point in the match came five minutes after the restart when Elgin’s Duff was sent off after the ball struck his arm. Keith netted the spot kick.
In the 56th minute, Park’s cross picked out Keith who made it 3-1. The summer signing grabbed his hat-trick five minutes later when he wheeled to smack the ball home from 10 yards.
McKeown added a fifth two minutes from the end with a low 30-yard free kick.
