the FORMARTINE boys ‘96 team is getting ready to travel to the Netherlands next week, as they look forward to taking part in a two-day tournament against other youth football teams from the continent.
Some 18 of the under-fifteens players will travel to the Netherlands. They will be accompanied by 10 adults, including Manager Martin Cheyne and team coach/secretary Gary Smith.
After flying to The Hague, the team will travel on to Scheviningen. In addition to taking part in the tournament, the team also hope to visit the Ajax Stadium in Amsterdam, as well as the famous Walibi theme park.
Team coach/secretary Gary Smith spoke of the work which had gone into ensuring that the trip could go ahead.
“We have been fundraising for the last four years and most recently have had a very successful bag packing event at Tesco in Ellon”, he said. “We have also sold recipe books and held a raffle.
“We’d like to thank everyone who bought raffle tickets, and for all the prizes that were donated”, he continued. “We really do appreciate the support we have had from players’ parents, the public and our sponsors.
“We are hoping to have an enjoyable trip and are looking forward to playing against European teams in the tournament, which will be a great experience for the boys. Hopefully, the volcano will keep quiet and not hamper our plans!”
